In the Slovakian Soldiers Memorial Complex founded in the memory of executed Slovaks in the mutiny of June 21, 1918, HE the Ambassador of Slovak Republic to Serbia Dagmar Repcekova planted the Peace Tree as a symbol of reconciliation that would overcome all disputes.
Peace Tree is a living monument planted in honor of known and unknown victims, symbolizing at the same time both life and peace. It points to today’s generations to all war sufferings and threats paralleled in the world today, said HE the Ambassador Repcekova. “Peace Tree” Project of the Embassy of Slovakia is of international character designed by the landscape architect Marke Sobola with an aim to mark 100th anniversary of the end of WWI. A reason more to plant the Peace Tree is the OSCE Slovakia chairmanship, since our priorities in the Region, said the Ambassador, is reconciliation process. Due to the fact that even today there are certain tensions among some countries of the Western Balkan the symbolizing act of the Peace Tree planting could significantly contribute to reconciliation that should overcome all disputes, she said.
The metal memorial plaque is placed next to the Tree on the base of Slovakian stone. Nine trees are planted so far and the aim is to plant trees on all continents.
In honour of the Slovakian rebels in the Memorial Complex the Minister without portfolio in charge for demographic and population policy PhD Professor Slavica Djukic – Dejanovic and the President of the Kragujevac City Assembly laid the wreaths.
Slovakian rebels shared those values of our people love of freedom and resistance to any injustice. That common point that intervenes among the Slavic people and which is perhaps most subtle among Slovaks and us here in Serbia is the message to the mankind through Peace Tree not to repeat the evil, that problems are to be solved through diplomacy and that solutions to most complex tasks are found in peace, noticed Slavica Djukic- Dejanovic.
In October the month of remembrance of all innocent victims, the month that marked the history of our City we planted a Peace Tree in the Memorial Complex devoted to the Slovakian rebels and remembered the sacrifices of our friends toward the end of the WWI, said Miroslav Petrasinovic. Due to the fact that the Ambassador Repcekova is ending of her ambassadorial term for Ambassador and that this is her farewell visit, Petrasinovic said that Kragujevac with the Embassy of Slovakia had excellent cooperation and number of project implemented in the field of culture. In accordance with number of the conversations they both agreed that there is a room for economic cooperation, expressing the hope that the cooperation will be continued after the ending of her ambassadorial term.
