T he evening dedicated to the Israel literature and Amos OZ one of the most widely-read writer in Europe was held at the People’s Library “Vuk Karadzic” for all lovers of the written words.
Beside mentioning the many prizes he was awarded with, among which Prize of Israel, Goethe Prize and Legion of Honours, the audience had opportunity to hear some details from the turbulent and unusual life of the great artist who started to write at the age of 6 in order to amuse the girls. He considered himself a happy man who made his dreams come through and who understood early in his life that none can be reborn and that a person wherever he goes keeps within him his genes, childhood and parents.
Our literary culture, pointed Jenny Sedov, the Deputy Head of Mission to Serbia, is very rich and it is very difficult to select only one writer. Amongst the most significant Israel writers along with Amos Oz is Hayim Nahman Bialik, born in Russia. Many of our writers are very popular and read worldwide. Amos Oz books are published in 35 countries and translated in 45 languages. From all wonderful books I read before I came to your country, said Jenny Sedov, I would single out Vuk Karadzic and Ivo Andric, not only because he is a Noble Prize winner but because he is translated to Hebrew.
The evening dedicated to Israel literature is only one of many events organized within the manifestation Days of Israel in Kragujevac, said Miljan Bjeletic, member of the City Council for Culture. This is the product of the cooperation of Kragujevac with Israel Embassy that is established in different fields but is most productive in the field of culture. There is a room for cooperation improvement through the networking of our cultural workers and artists and mutual projects. Beside the cooperation of the EU countries embassies the City of Kragujevac, reminded Bjeletic pays special attention to cultural cooperation establishment with significant institutions such as Italian Cultural Centre, Russian Centre of Science and Culture, Goethe Institute and French Cultural Centre – Institute.
Along with the Miljan Bjeletic the evening of the Isreal Literature was attended by Miroslav Petrasinovic, President of the City Assembly and Aleksandar Stajn, the Mayor’s Assistant for Internal and International Relations.
